Rangpur records below 1pc COVID-19 infection rate

RANGPUR, Feb 7, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division recorded the lowest ever below one percent daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate on Saturday since the beginning of the outbreak of the pandemic.

“One COVID-19 positive case was reported after diagnosing 116 samples in the division with the lowest ever daily infection rate of 0.86 percent on Saturday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.
He said the daily coronavirus infection rate continues to remain below the 10 percent mark during the last one and a half months in Rangpur division as a result of growing public awareness and use of masks by more and more people.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 2.40 percent on Friday, 3.14 percent on Thursday, 1.89 percent on Wednesday, 1.60 percent on Tuesday, 3.95 percent on Monday, 1.46 percent on Sunday and 5.41 percent on Saturday last in the division.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,762 in the division today as one more positive case was reported on Saturday.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,762 patients stands at 4,016 in Rangpur, 789 in Panchagarh, 1,325 in Nilphamari, 964 in Lalmonirhat, 1,012 in Kurigram, 1,506 in Thakurgaon, 4,692 in Dinajpur and 1,458 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Since the beginning of the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 1,03,148 collected samples were tested in the division till Saturday, and of them, 15,762 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 15.28 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,042 with the recovery of nine more infected people in the division on Saturday with the average recovery rate of about 95.43 percent.

“The average COVID-19 infection rate is currently about 6.25 times less that the recovery rate in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 15,042 recovered patients include 3,631 of Rangpur, 758 of Panchagarh, 1,295 of Nilphamari, 947 of Lalmonirhat, 974 of Kurigram, 1,429 of Thakurgaon, 4,574 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 304 in the division with no more death reported on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 304 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 110 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

“Among the total 15,762 COVID-19 patients, 18 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,042 patients and 304 deaths while 398 are remaining in home isolations across the division,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said the infection rate continues declining as the number of mask-wearing people is rising in the division.
