Seminar on Presidential Mercy held at IU

KUSHTIA , Feb 6, 2021, (BSS) – A day-long PhD seminar on ‘Prerogative of Mercy of the President with Special Reference to Right to Life and Liberty in Bangladesh’ was held today at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia.

Islamic University Law department arranged the seminar at the Conference Room of Law faculty on the campus around 12:00pm.

Former IU Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha spoke at the seminar as the chief guest while law department Associate Professor Dr M Abdul Karim addressed here as the discussant with Law department Chairman Professor Dr Nurun Nahar in the chair.

The seminar was addressed, among others, by Professor Dr M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiyan of Economics department, Professor Dr Mahbubur Rahman of Information and Communication Technology department, Professor Dr M Anowar Hossian of Islamic History and Culture department, Professor Dr M Lutfor Rahman, Professor M Selim of Public Administration department, Associate Professor Dr M Ruhul Amin of Finance and Banking department and Associate Professor Anisur Rahman and Assistant Professor Armin Khatun.

Sayed Qamrul Hossain, a PhD fellow of the department presented the article under the supervision of Professor Dr Shahjahan Mondol.

Addressing the seminar the fellows focused on the prerogative mercy of the Bangladesh president like grant pardons, reprieves, respite, suspend, remit or commute the sentence of a convict-offender passed by any court, tribunal or other authority.
