COVID-19: 15,757 infected, 15,027 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 5, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,757 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 15,027 cured in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues declining during the last seven weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,757 as five new patients were reported after testing 159 samples in the division on Thursday with the daily infection rate of 3.14 percent.

“The daily infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark consistently during the last one and a half months bringing relief to commoners in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 1.89 percent on Wednesday, 1.60 percent on Tuesday, 3.95 percent on Monday, 1.46 percent on Sunday, 5.41 percent on Saturday and 5.85 percent on Friday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,02,865 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Thursday, and of them, 15,757 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.32 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 15,027 with the healing of 18 more infected people on Thursday with an average recovery rate of 95.37 percent in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,757 patients stands at 4,016 in Rangpur, 788 in Panchagarh, 1,325 in Nilphamari, 964 in Lalmonirhat, 1,011 in Kurigram, 1,506 in Thakurgaon, 4,689 in Dinajpur and 1,458 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Currently, the 15,027 recovered patients include 3,630 of Rangpur, 758 of Panchagarh, 1,294 of Nilphamari, 947 of Lalmonirhat, 970 of Kurigram, 1,427 of Thakurgaon, 4,567 of Dinajpur and 1,434 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 304 in the division with no more death reported on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 304 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 110 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,757 COVID-19 infected patients, 19 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,027 patients and 304 deaths while 407 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 95,095 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 92,008 released and 3,087 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives to control the spread of the coronavirus infection.
