3 held with illegal VoIP equipment in city

DHAKA, Feb 4, 2021 (BSS) – The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has
arrested three people with illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
equipment worth about Taka five crore in separate drives in capital’s
New Market, Turag and Shah Ali areas.

RAB’s legal and media wing Assistant Director Imran Khan told BSS
that RAB members with the help of Bangladesh Telecommunication
Regulatory Commission (BTRC) officials raided a shop named Talha
Enterprise at New Market area at 2:00pm yesterday.

They arrested Rakib Hasan (30) and Babar Uddin (30) from there.
Subsequently they held Kazi MM Mahmud alias Chhoton (32) from Turag
and recovered VoIP materials from Shah Ali areas.

The RAB said the detainees had been carrying out illegal VoIP
business for long.

The BRTC incurs huge revenue losses due to illegal international
calls made from all over the country, using the unauthorized VoIP
equipment.

Legal action is underway in this connection, he added.
