HC hands over one to police over forging signature of PMO official

DHAKA, Feb 3, 2021 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today handed one person, who had appeared at the court to secure anticipatory bail in a case lodged over forging signature of an official of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), to police.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice K M Zahid Sarwar scrapped the bail plea of Karim Mia and handed him over to police.

“Accused Karim Mia had forged the signature of an Assistant Military Secretary of PMO and was on run since filing of the case against him and two others. The court today scrapped his bail plea and handed him over to police,” Deputy Attorney General Mohammad Monirul Islam told BSS.

According to the case documents, members of Highway Police on the night of February 14, 2020, stopped a bamboo-laden truck on Rangpur-Bogra Highway. Driver Md Azim Uddin and truck helper Md Motaleb Hossain told the police that the bamboos were being taken to PMO for raising stage for a state function. The two also showed police a document said to be signed by an Assistant Military Secretary of PMO.

Later, police contacted the official and found that the signature was forged. Azim and Motaleb said the truck owner Karim Mia had given them the forged document. Police afterwards filed the case against Driver Md Azim Uddin and truck helper Md Motaleb Hossain and truck owner Karim Mia.
