Stocks witness downtrend as major sector dip

DHAKA, Feb 2, 2021 (BSS) – Both the stock markets were down further
today due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities despite higher
transactions.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by
35.10 points or 0.63 per cent to settle at 5,564.70. The DS30 index,
comprising blue chips, and the DSE Shariah Index went down 16.03 points to
finish at 2,109.45 and 8.04 points to close at 1,246.09 respectively.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, remained low and amounted
to Taka 7,029.337 million which was Taka 7,182.224 million in the previous
session.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 356 issues traded,
90 closed lower, 147 ended higher and 119 issues remained unchanged on the
DSE trading floor.

Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by BATBC,
Beximco Pharma, Robi and Lanka Bangla.

Mir Akhter was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 50 per cent
while Eastern Insurance was the worst loser, losing 6.90 per cent following
its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also edged lower with its All Shares Price
Index (CASPI)-losing 99.06 points to close at 16,197.76 while the Selective
Categories Index – CSCX shedding 61.46 points to close at 9,771.56.

Of the issues traded, 105 declined, 71 advanced and 64 remained
unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 1.51crore shares and mutual fund units with
turnover value of more than Taka 100.89 crore.
