Wanderers Club ex-gs Joy Gopal’s bail hearing on Feb 8

DHAKA, 2 Feb, 2021 (BSS): The high court today held hearing for the second day on bail application in separate cases filed against former general secretary of Wanderers Club Joy Gopal Sarkar over various charges including casino scandal.

The court has fixed February 8 for the next hearing in this regard.

A virtual division bench of the court comprising Justices Mohammad Nazrul Islam Talukder and Mohi Uddin Shamim passed the order after hearing the application, Deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik told BSS.

Advocate Mohammad Kamrul Islam appeared for the accused while Advocate Mohammad Khurshid Alam Khan for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Gopal was a footballer of Wanderers Club and retired as a member of the Board of Directors. Later served as a cashier in the club. He became the general secretary of the club in 2014.

Meanwhile, police arrested two brothers, Enamul Haque Enu and Rupon Bhuiyan, along with an accomplice from a building in Keraniganj on January 13 last year for being involved in a casino scandal at the club.

A case was filed against them under the Money Laundering Act at Gandaria police station.

The CID arrested Joy Gopal from Lalbagh on July 13 the same year after his name came up in a statement given by Enu and Rupon.
