Coronavirus: 15,746 infected, 14,988 recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Feb 2, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,746 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,988 recovered in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues declining during the last seven weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,746 as seven new patients were reported after testing 177 samples in the division on Monday with the daily infection rate of 3.95 percent.

“The daily infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark consistently during the last seven weeks bring relief to common people in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 1.46 percent on Sunday, 5.41 percent on Saturday, 5.85 percent on Friday, 5.85 percent on Thursday, 1.74 percent on Wednesday, 4.89 on Tuesday and 1.59 percent on Monday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,02,330 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, 15,746 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.39 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,988 with the healing of nine more infected people on Monday with an average recovery rate of 95.19 percent in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,746 patients stands at 4,014 in Rangpur, 787 in Panchagarh, 1,325 in Nilphamari, 963 in Lalmonirhat, 1,011 in Kurigram, 1,506 in Thakurgaon, 4,682 in Dinajpur and 1,458 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the 14,988 recovered patients include 3,620 of Rangpur, 757 of Panchagarh, 1,294 of Nilphamari, 945 of Lalmonirhat, 970 of Kurigram, 1,427 of Thakurgaon, 4,553 of Dinajpur and 1,422 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS this afternoon, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 304 in the division with no more death reported on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 304 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 110 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,746 COVID-19 infected patients, 22 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 14,988 patients and 304 deaths while 432 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 95,029 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 91,837 released and 3,192 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives to further contain the spread of the coronavirus infection.
