An opportunity for Tigers to open account in WTC point table

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 2, 2021 (BSS)—Bangladesh is keen to grab all the available points in two-match Test series against West Indies in a bid to open their account in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) point table.

Bangladesh is currently languishing at the bottom of the point table in nine-team tournament but what is more disappointing for them is that they still haven’t missed any point.

However due to Covid-19 pandemic, Bangladesh couldn’t play all the matches of the WTC like other teams. They have so far played one series against India and another series against Pakistan remains unfinished after playing one Test. The second Test against Pakistan was halted by a pandemic situation.

Overall Bangladesh played three matches in the WTC and lost all by innings margin.

With Bangladesh holding the favourite tag in the two-match Test series against West Indies, due to the home advantage, they are expecting to snap the losing streak.

“I am hopeful to get full points from the series,” Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque said here today.

Bangladesh though won their last Test against Zimbabwe, it was not the part of the WTC, which means technically they are in losing streak in the Test Championship tournament.

Mominul however doesn’t want to live in the past as he said that Bangladesh would start fresh, considering that they are going to play their first Test since the Covid-19 outbreak.

“We are returning to Test cricket after one year, so it is the opportunity to start everything new. I admit it will be challenging but at the same time, it’s an opportunity to start everything new,” the Test captain opined.

“We don’t want to live in the past. What happened in the past, is not our headache. We even don’t want to remember those matches. As I said earlier, it is the opportunity for us to start everything.”

West Indies currently sit just one spot ahead of Bangladesh after securing a victory in seven matches. If Bangladesh wins the upcoming two matches against the Caribbean, there is a chance they can overcome West Indies.
