Media support needed to make corona vaccination successful in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 2, 2021 (BSS) – All-out cooperation of media both print and
electronic has become crucial to make the forthcoming vaccination against
coronavirus (Covid-19) successful in Rajshahi.

Proactive and constructive role of the mass-media is very important towards
making the district-level corona vaccination next a total success through
averting all sorts of rumors and misconceptions.

Speakers came up with the observation while addressing a press-briefing
held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) office today ahead of
rolling out the vaccination on February 7.

Prior to the briefing, they held a meeting of the district level committee
to prevent coronavirus infection and overall management at the same venue.

DC Abdul Jalil, Superintendent of Police Masud Hossain and Civil Surgeon Dr
Quiume Talukder addressed the meeting and the press-briefing as focal
persons.

The journalists were apprised that a total of 1.80 lakh doses of
coronavirus vaccines were already reached here. Four centres with a total of
16 booths have also been made prepared for coronavirus vaccination in
Rajshahi city.

The centres are Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, Rajshahi City
Corporation (Nagar Bhaban), Rajshahi Police Line Hospital and Rajshahi
Cantonment Hospital.

Meanwhile, a total of 7.20 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been
reached in all eight districts of Rajshahi division aimed at rolling out the
district-level vaccination programme as per the government decision on
February 7.

Beximco Pharmaceuticals supplied the vaccine to the cold storage units of
district headquarters, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of
the Directorate General of Health Services.

He told the local journalists that training for health workers – from civil
surgeons to field level staff – on Covid-19 vaccines would be completed
within the next couple of days.

On February 1 and 2, five health workers from each of all 67 upazilas were
called to the district headquarters for a one-day orientation on how to
administer the vaccines and primary care.

Dr Talukder said civil surgeons, administrations and local government
officials have started preparing a list comprising health workers. Then they
will prepare another list with other front-liners including law enforcers and
journalists, he added.

The vaccination programme will be conducted through at least 662 “Covid-19
Vaccine Centres” in eight districts of the division.

These will be set up at three medical college hospitals in Rajshahi, Bogura
and Sirajganj; four Combined Military Hospitals in Rajshahi, Bogura and
Natore; police hospitals in eight districts; Sadar or general hospitals in
seven districts; 67 upazila health complexes, and at 564 unions.

Besides, there will be additional vaccine centres at the offices of civil
surgeons in eight districts, and one at Rajshahi City Corporation.

Dr Habibul Talukder said the government has already launched a smartphone
app for people to get registered for vaccination.

“Once people get registered using their NID and mobile phone numbers, they
will be selected as per their age and asked to come to the centers through an
SMS,” said the health director.

“The district health committee are taking decisions on how to conduct the
vaccination process in a disciplined manner,” Dr Talukder said, adding that
the vaccination will be started in due time properly as per the government
direction.

About security, he said there will be Ansar and Village Defense Party
members at the vaccination centres to assist health workers and avert any
untoward situation.
