Dhaka Abahani loses points again in BPL

DHAKA, Feb 1, 2021 (BSS) – Abahani Limited Dhaka, lost valuable points again as they were forced by Chittagong Abahani Limited to play a 1-1 goal draw in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) held today at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) here.

It was the second consecutive draw for Dhaka Abahani Limited in the league after the sky blue Dhanmondi outfit were forced by Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited to play by 2-2 goals draw in their previous league’s match held in Cumilla.

In the day’s match, Brazilian striker Francisco Wagsley scored for Dhaka Abahani in the first half while Brazilian forward Nixon Brizolara netted for Chittagong Abahani Limited in the injury time of the first half.

Francisco put Dhaka Abahani ahead converting spot kick in the 32nd minute while Nixon Brizolara neutralized the margin for Chittagong Abahani Limited in the 45+2nd minute also from a penalty.

After the lemon break, both the teams got several scoring chances but failed to take lead for lack of proper finishing.

With this outcome, Dhaka Abahani secured 11 points from five matches while Chittagong Abahani Limited also raised their tally with seven points playing the same number of outings.

Abahani Limited will play against Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra while Chittagong Abahani Limited meet Bashundhara Kings in their next respective matches scheduled to be held on Friday (Feb. 5) at the same venue.

Earlier, Abahani Limited, Dhaka made a winning start in the league beating Bangladesh Police Football Club by 1-0 goal in their opening league match, outclassed Brothers Union Club by 2-0 goals in their second match, edged past Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society by 1-0 in the third match and played out to a 2-2 goals draw with arch-rival Mohammedan Sporting Club in the fourth match.

On the other hand, the Port City team Chittagong Abahani Limited lost to Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club by 1-2 goals in their league opening match, edged past Arambagh Krira Sangha by 1-0 goal in the second match, beat Saif Sporting Club by 1-0 goal in the third match and lost to Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra by 0-1 goal in the third match.

Tuesday’s match: Saif Sporting Club vs Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at BNS at 4 pm.
