People reject BNP’s propaganda over COVID-19 vaccine: Hasan

DHAKA, Jan 31, 2021 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP’s propaganda over coronavirus vaccine has failed as people have rejected their ill attempt on inoculation drive.

“At the beginning of COVID 19 epidemic, people got panicked and some people thought that thousands of people will starve to death and bodies will be lying on streets. But, by the grace of Almighty and bold leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, not a single people in the country is starving and no bodies are lying on the streets,” he said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled ‘Our achievements on Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and future doings of present generation’ and the central special representative conference of Bangladesh Awami Muktijoddha Prajanmmo League (BAMPL) at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Valiant Freedom Fighter Shahjahan Khan addressed the discussion as the key speaker while Awami League leader Advocate Boloram Poddar addressed it as special guest. BAMPL founder president Advocate Md Asaduzzaman Molla Durjay presided over the meeting.

Hasan said rumour mongers think that the government would not be able to bring the Coronavirus vaccine in due time. But, the government, as per its declaration, brought 70 lakh doses of vaccine within January. All their (BNP) propaganda went in vain as the party thought that the government will not be able to bring COVID-19 vaccines, the minister added.

BNP also tried to preach that the vaccine would not work and it (vaccine) should be given to ministers and bureaucrats at first. “However, their faces turned dull when the lawmakers, ministers and government high officials took the vaccine first,” he added. Hasan thanked the government officials and ministers, who received vaccines for encouraging the people to get vaccines.

The information minister said everyone has now started taking vaccine with great enthusiasm. “Now, what will BNP say? BNP will take the vaccine or will wait for the invention of vaccine by Pakistan,” he posed a question.

Hasan, also the Awami League joint general secretary said, “I would like to urge BNP leaders to praise the government successes on vaccine issue.”

He said the vaccine brought from Serum Institute of India developed by the Oxford-Astrazeneca is one of the effective vaccines in the world and are manufactured in India. And, different countries of the world are collecting the vaccine and administering it (Vaccine) to their people, he added.

The whole world including the World Health Organization has confidence on this vaccine, he said, adding only BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Gayeshwar Roy could not gain confidence on this vaccine.

Hasan said they have no confidence in themselves, for this, they are criticizing others.

The minister said, “The Premier has said not to be ashamed to take the vaccine. I would like to urge them (BNP), if you want to take the vaccine at first, then the government would take steps to administer the vaccine to you first.”

Regarding BNP’s allegations over Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls, Hasan said they didn’t even win a councillor’s seat among the 52 councillor seats. This is their organizational weakness, he added.

“I would like to urge BNP leaders to stand beside the masses during the prevailing COVID19 situation rather than criticizing the government. Let’s come together and stand by the people. Politics is for people. Politics is for the country. Politics is not for party,” Hasan said.
