Rangpur records lowest 1.46pc COVID-19 infection rate

RANGPUR, Jan 31, 2021 (BSS) – The lowest ever 1.46 percent daily coronavirus infection rate was recorded today in Rangpur division where infection rate continues to decline consistently during the last more than six weeks.

Health officials said only two new people were reported coronavirus positive today after testing 137 collected samples of Rangpur division at the daily infection rate of 1.46 percent.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 5.41 percent on Saturday, 5.85 percent on Friday, 5.85 percent on Thursday, 1.74 percent on Wednesday, 4.89 on Tuesday, 1.59 percent on Monday and 5.26 percent on Sunday last in the division.

All of the two new patients hailing from Rangpur were reported positive today after diagnosing 56 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

On the other hand, none was reported COVID-19 positive after diagnosing 81 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,739 as two new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise breakup of the total 15,739 patients stands at 4,014 in Rangpur, 786 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 963 in Lalmonirhat, 1,011 in Kurigram, 1,505 in Thakurgaon, 4,679 in Dinajpur and 1,458 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
