4.56 lakh corona vaccines reach Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 31, 2021 (BSS) – A total of four lakh 56 thousand doses of coronavirus vaccines reached here at 8 am today.

Divisional Health director Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir and Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi received 36 covered fridges containing the vaccines saying that these will be preserved in the EPI Stores for maintaining the cold chain until the vaccination drive begins.

As per the government decision, the district level vaccination will be rolled out on February 7 from Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

“Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel will inaugurate the vaccination campaign,” Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said, adding that the vaccination will be started in due time properly as per the government direction.

He said the vaccines were kept in the EPI stores of the Civil Surgeon’s Office and the vaccination will be conducted in the same manner as the EPI program.

“We’re going to arrange a two-day training course for the health workers on the vaccination drive from February 1,” he continued.

The Civil Surgeon said that a total of 42 teams will be engaged to conduct the corona vaccination programme. Each team will consist of two staff nurses or senior staff nurses and four volunteers as vaccinators.

“We’ve taken preparations for the vaccination in 15 centres,” said Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir, adding that there will be four booths in each of the centres.

Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir said no one who is below 18 will get vaccines in the first phase as the list is being prepared on priority basis. Health workers will get the vaccine in the initial stage followed by journalists, police, Ansar, BGB members and the above sixties.

According to the Civil Surgeon’s Office, vaccination drive will be conducted in the port city under the supervision of the City Corporation and at the upazila level under the supervision of respective UNO.

Four committees have already been formed to manage the vaccination activities. If there is any problem in providing vaccination, the departmental committee will take care of it.

Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said that corona vaccine will be given in 14 upazila health complexes at the upazila level.
