19 more tested positive for Covid-19 in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, Jan 30, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 19 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in five districts under Rajshahi division in the last 24 hours till Friday evening, climbing its total number to 25,228.

However, the new daily infection figure is one of the ever-lowest ones compared to the previous couple of weeks, said the health department sources.

Of the infected patients, 23,568 have, so far, been cured from the lethal virus with 49 new recoveries found during the time, they said.

The number of deaths from the disease stands at 389 including 244 in Bogura and 55 in Rajshahi with one fatality reported afresh today, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, Divisional Director of Health.

Of the total new positive cases, the highest 12 cases were detected in Bogura, followed by three in Naogaon, two in Pabna and one each in Joypurhat and Sirajganj.

With the new detected cases, the district-wise break-up of the COVID-19 cases now stands at 5,958 in Rajshahi including 4,470 in its city, 820 in Chapainawabganj, 1,608 in Naogaon, 1,226 in Natore, 1,352 in Joypurhat, 9,873 in Bogura, 2,725 in Sirajganj and 1,666 in Pabna.

A number of 2,950 identified patients were undergoing treatment at designated hospitals in the division till this morning as 6,450 other suspected patients remained in isolation units and 5,667 have, by now, been released.

On the other hand, 17 more persons have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 20 others were released in all eight districts of the division over the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

A total of 65,361 people had, so far, been kept under quarantine since March 10 to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Of them, 64,100 have, by now, been released as they were given clearance certificates after completing their respective 14-day quarantine period in the division.

Following detection of the new COVID-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons in different areas under the division were placed on a 14-day lockdown as per the health safety guidelines.

Dr Talukder said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were identified and they were asked to remain at home isolation so that the virus cannot spread further.
