Boro cultivation in full swing in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Jan 29, 2021 (BSS)- Boro cultivation is going on in full swing in the district with an additional target of production in the current Robi season.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) office said farmers of the district have already planted Boro on 66,730 hectares of land of which high-breed variety on 23,440 hectares, high yielding variety on 43,000 hectares and local variety on 290 hectares of land till today.

This year with the target of an additional production of 29,750 tonnes, 1,590 hectares more land will be brought under the Boro paddy cultivation than the last year, the office sources said.

Deputy Director of the DAE Md Aminul Islam said over 51 percent of land has been planted till today. View to increase production incentive on Boro paddy cultivation was disbursed among 4,400 small and marginal farmers, he added.

This year the Agriculture Department has fixed the target of Boro paddy cultivation on 1,30,450 hectares of land with a production target 5,66,591 tonnes of rice in all the seven upazilas of the district.

The DAE sources said of the total target of high- breed variety was fixed on 46,000 hectares with a production target 2,31,380 tonnes while high yielding variety on 84,000 hectares with a production target 3,34,320 tonnes and the local variety on 450 hectares with a production target 891 tonnes.

According to upazila-wise break-up of land is as follows—34,760 hectares in Jamalpur Sadar, 18,522 hectares in Sarishabari, 21,049 hectares in Melandah, 16,712 hectares in Islampur, 9,279 hectares in Dewanganj, 16,850 hectares in Madarganj and 13,278 hectares in Bakshiganj.

Availability of the Boro seedlings, other agricultural inputs and incentive-related programmes helped to achieve the expected cultivation target this year, the office added.
