Coronavirus: 15,721 infected, 14,944 recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 29, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,721 people have been infected with

coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,944 recovered in Rangpur division where the

infection rate continues declining in recent times.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,721 as 11 new patients

were reported after testing 188 samples in the division on Thursday with the daily

infection rate of 5.85 percent.

“The daily infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark consistently during the

last more than six weeks in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director

(Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 1.74 percent on Wednesday, 4.89 on

Tuesday, 1.59 percent on Monday, 5.26 percent on Sunday, 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21

percent on Friday and 7.30 percent on Thursday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,01,717 collected samples of Rangpur division were

tested till Thursday, and of them, 15,9721 people were found COVID-19 positive with an

average infection rate of 15.46 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,944 with the healing of 11 more

infected people on Thursday with an average recovery rate of 95.06 percent in the

division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,721 patients stands at 4,009 in Rangpur,

785 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 963 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,504 in

Thakurgaon, 4,670 in Dinajpur and 1,458 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the 14,944 recovered patients include 3,611 of Rangpur, 752 of Panchagarh,

1,292 of Nilphamari, 945 of Lalmonirhat, 970 of Kurigram, 1,415 of Thakurgaon, 4,527 of

Dinajpur and 1,422 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of

fatalities remained steady at 303 in the division with no more deaths reported from

anywhere on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 303 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 109 in

Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in

Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,721 COVID-19 infected patients, 31 are undergoing treatments at

isolation units after recovery of 14,944 patients and 303 deaths while 443 remaining in

home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,903 people of the division were put in

quarantines, and of them, 91,577 released and 3,326 are currently remaining in home or

institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of

Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu called upon common people to

abide by the health directives to prevent further spread of the infection.
