3 snake poison smugglers held in Khulna

KHULNA, Jan 28, 2021 (BSS) – Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-6) today arrested three alleged smugglers of snake poison worth about TK 84 crore from city’s zero point area.

The arrested were identified as Bacchu Sarder, 50, son of Nurul Sardar, resident of Bera area of Pabna, Lutfar Rahman, 48, son of Ibrahim Pramanik, resident of Pabla area of Faridpur and Soumitra Biswas, 32, son of Ramchandra Biswas, residents of sadar upazila of Jashore.

Talking to BSS, Commander of RAB-6 Lieutenant Colonel Rowshonul Firoz, said, on secret information, a special RAB team conducted the drive at Zero point area at dawn and arrested the trio with a dozen pound of snake poison.

RAB members arrested three smugglers from the area when they were loitering along with 12 pound snake poisons which were kept in six containers (jars) with the labels of France made, he said

‘Three containers have been found in liquid condition and as many as in powdered condition, he said, adding that the poison is used in drugs and medicines.

The market price of one pound snake poison is TK seven crore, he said, adding that 12 pound snake poison is worth around TK one 84 thousand crore.

The seized snake poison have been sent to Laboratory for chemical test in the capital.

The arrested in the preliminary interrogation confessed that they have been involved in poaching wild animals specially, lizards, crocodiles and snakes and collecting skins and poisons and they are being quizzed in Labanchara RAB headquarter in the city, he added.
