Bumper wheat production likely in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, Jan 28, 2021(BSS) – The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) is expecting to achieve a bumper wheat production in the district during the current season.

The DAE sources said a total of 19, 000 hectares of land were brought under wheat cultivation during the season with an output target of 71,250 metric tons of wheat.

Deputy director of DAE Md. Mizanur Rahman told BSS that wheat cultivation has increase this year in comparison with that of the last year.

The DAE official said farmers’ interest in the cultivation of wheat is increasing because of a less production cost of the crop.

Farmers Abdul Majid and Subash Chandra of village Sabuspara under Debiganj Upazila of the district said at least 10 maunds of wheat can be harvested from one bigha of land.

They said the DAE has supplied all necessary seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and other agriculture inputs to the farmers free of cost.

Besides, the department also imparted training to the farmers to make them acquainted with the modern methods of wheat cultivation.
