Boro cultivation in full swing in Netrakona

NETRAKONA, Jan 28, 2021 (BSS) – Cultivation of Boro paddy has been going on in full swing in all the ten upazilas of the district.

Farmers have been passing their busy times for transplanting Boro seedlings on their farm lands in all the areas braving severe cold weather.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in Netrakona office sources here said, a target was fixed this year to cultivate Boro paddy on 1,85,250 hectors of land in the district with a plan to produce nearly eight lakh metric tons of clean Boro rice.

Meanwhile, the Boro cultivators have completed transplantation of Boro seedlings on 1,62,470 hectors of land in the district after getting all sorts of field-level supports from different state run agencies and banks including BADC, BCIC, PDB, REB, DAE and BKB.

Talking to this BSS correspondent, deputy director of DAE Netrakona Habibur Rahman informed that at the directives of the government, BADC and BCIC have ensured proper supply of improved quality seeds and fertilizers to the door-steps of the Boro cultivators and PDB and REB continued ensuring un-interrupted supply of electricity to keep the irrigation machineries operative round the clock.

The field workers including crops specialists of DAE continued rendering their field-level service to let the cultivators know about the modern cultivation methods to cultivate Boro crops through using latest technologies by reducing production costs.

Apart from this, following special instructions of the government, different state-run commercial banks including Sonali Bank and Bangladesh Krishi Bank disbursed Boro crops loan among the Boro cultivators to assist them to run their Boro paddy cultivation program successfully without facing financial problem, he said.

The government also distributed 110 metric tons of Boro seeds as incentive among the small and marginal farmers in the district at free of cost to assist them to run their Boro cultivation network, the deputy director said.

Replying to a question, the deputy director said, if the weather remains favourable, the production target for Boro will be achieved this year.
