3 get 14 years for smuggling gold
DHAKA, Jan 28, 2021 (BSS) – A Dhaka Court today sentenced three gold smugglers to 14 years in prison in a case filed under the Special Powers Act for recovering 62 kg of gold at the Hazrat Shahjalal Airport on 2018.
At the same time, the court sentenced each of them to 1 month imprisonment for non-payment of fine of Tk 20,000.
Judge Fatima Imroz of the 6th Additional Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court in Dhaka pronounced the verdict in the presence of the accused today.
After the verdict was announced, the court issued a warrant and sent them to jail.
Convicts of the case- Abu Saleh, Anwarul Ahsan and Akhtaruzzaman were arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital in 2018 along with 62 kg gold bars.
A case was filed against them under the Special Powers Act at the Airport Police Station in the capital.
