Only five more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 27, 2021 (BSS) – Only five more people were tested for
coronavirus positive today in the division where the daily infection
rate remains below 10 percent consistently during the last five weeks.

Health officials said the five new cases were reported after
diagnosing 172 samples at the daily infection rate of 2.91 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 1.59 percent on Monday, 5.26
percent on Sunday, 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday,
7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday and 3.19 percent
on Tuesday last in the division.

Among the five new patients diagnosed, four were reported positive
after diagnosing 78 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur
Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The four new patients include three from Rangpur and one from
Kurigram districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and
Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM
Nurunnobi Lyzu.

On the other hand, only one new patient of Dinajpur district was
reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M
Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients
rose to 15,711 as five new positive cases were reported from across
the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,711 patients stands at
4,007 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in
Lalmonirhat, 1,010 in Kurigram, 1,503 in Thakurgaon, 4,665 in Dinajpur
and 1,457 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
