11 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 26, 2021 (BSS) – Eleven people were tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in the division where the daily infection rate remains below 10 percent consistently during the last five weeks.

Health officials said the 11 new cases were reported today after diagnosing 184 samples at the daily infection rate of 5.98 percent.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were only 1.59 percent on Monday, 5.26 percent on Sunday, 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday, 7.30 percent on Thursday and 4.97 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

Among the 11 new patients diagnosed today, five were reported positive after diagnosing 90 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.
“The five new patients include four from Rangpur and one from Gaibandha districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu.

On the other hand, six new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The six new COVID-19 patients include five from Dinajpur and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,709 as 11 new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,709 patients stands at 4,005 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,503 in Thakurgaon, 4,666 in Dinajpur and 1,457 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
