No COVID-19 related death in Rangpur division in 10 days

RANGPUR, Jan 26, 2021 (BSS) – No coronavirus (COVID-19) related death was recorded in the last 10 consecutive days across Rangpur division where the infection rate remains below 10 percent during the last five consecutive weeks.

“The number of COVID-19 related fatalities remained steady at 302 with no more deaths reported during the last 10 days since January 17 last,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break up of the 302 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.92 percent in the division.

“Only four people were found infected after testing 251 samples in the division at the lowest ever daily infection rate of 1.59 percent on Monday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 5.26 percent on Sunday, 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday, 7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday and 3.19 percent on Tuesday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,01,173 samples of suspected coronavirus infected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Monday, and of them, 15,698 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.52 percent.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,698 patients stands at 4,001 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,661 in Dinajpur and 1,456 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,903 with the healing of 33 more infected people on Monday with an average recovery rate of 94.94 percent in the division.

Currently, the 14,903 recovered patients include 3,606 of Rangpur, 751 of Panchagarh, 1,292 of Nilphamari, 945 of Lalmonirhat, 970 of Kurigram, 1,425 of Thakurgaon, 4,492 of Dinajpur and 1,422 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

“The average recovery rate of 94.94 percent is currently about 6.12 times higher than the average infection rate of 15.52 percent,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the infection rate continues declining while the recovery rate increases following growing public awareness and use of masks by an increasing number of people in recent times in the division.

Among the total 15,698 coronavirus infected patients, 29 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 14,903 patients and 302 deaths while 464 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,764 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 91,423 released and 3,341 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu the COVID-19 situation might improve further if everyone would properly abide by the health directives.
