Bangladesh spinners put us in trouble: Jason Mohammed

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 25, 2021 (BSS)—West Indies skipper Jason Mohammed admitted that their failure against Bangladesh spinners was key in being whitewashed in the three-match ODI series.

In the first match, Shakib Al Hasan claimed 4-8 with his wily left-arm spin to destroy West Indies and later in the second game, it was off-spinner Mehidy Hasan’s Miraz’s turn who bagged his career-best 4-25 to plot West Indies downfall.

West Indies lost the series by being beaten by six wickets and seven wickets respectively in the first two matches.

In third match, they were playing to avoid the series sweep but it was not to be. In this match, Shakib though couldn’t deliver his full quota due to the groin injury, Mehidy kept West Indies at bay with a stunning figure of 10-2-18-2, which was the most economical bowling by Bangladeshi off-spinner in the history.

While Bangladeshi spinners put West Indies in spin, fast bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin and Saifuddin also played a key role.

“I think we were a bit far off in all three games. We bowled pretty ok, maybe 300 too much. And then our batting didn’t come up trumps. It was a bit challenging for us, the spinners were really challenging for us, especially in the first two games. I think that’s where we faltered a lot,” West Indies skipper said here today.

But Jason Mohammed hoped that once their full-strength team comes back, they will be a different team.

“It’s something that can be rectified, with our full-strength team, it’s a pretty good batting lineup. Once our main players are back, we can do pretty well at putting scores and chasing them. Alzarri Joseph was very good, at the top and with the death. Akeal Hosein was also very good. I think the bowlers were very good.”
