Rangpur division records lowest 2.79pc COVID-19 infection rate

RANGPUR, Jan 25, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division today recorded the lowest daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate of 2.79 percent since the outbreak of the pandemic.

Health officials said seven new coronavirus cases were reported after diagnosing 251 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division with the daily infection rate of 2.79 percent today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 5.26 percent on Sunday, 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday, 7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday and 3.19 percent on Tuesday last in the division.

Among the seven new patients diagnosed today, three, including a male student of Rangpur Medical College (RpMC), were reported positive after diagnosing a total of 157 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at RpMC in Rangpur.

“The three new infected patients include two from Rangpur and one from Dinajpur districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu.

On the other hand, four new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“The four new COVID-19 patients include three from Dinajpur and one from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain said after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,701 as seven new positive cases were reported today in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,701 patients stands at 4,001 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,324 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,663 in Dinajpur and 1,456 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
