Below 10pc COVID-19 infection rate in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 25, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division has been witnessing the daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate below 10 percent consistently during the last five consecutive weeks.

“Only 13 people were found infected after testing 247 samples in the division at the daily infection rate of 5.26 percent on Sunday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 4.26 percent on Saturday, 4.21 percent on Friday, 7.30 percent on Thursday, 4.97 percent on Wednesday, 3.19 percent on Tuesday and 4.64 percent on Monday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,00,920 samples of suspected coronavirus infected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Sunday, and of them, 15,694 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.55 percent.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,694 patients stands at 3,999 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 962 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,659 in Dinajpur and 1,456 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,870 with the healing of 32 more infected people on Sunday with an average recovery rate of 94.75 percent in the division.

Currently, the 14,870 recovered patients include 3,600 of Rangpur, 751 of Panchagarh, 1,292 of Nilphamari, 945 of Lalmonirhat, 970 of Kurigram, 1,411 of Thakurgaon, 4,484 of Dinajpur and 1,417 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

“The average recovery rate of 94.75 percent is currently 6.09 times higher than the average infection rate of 15.55 percent in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 302 in the division with no more deaths reported on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 302 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.92 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,694 coronavirus infected patients, 29 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,870 patients and 302 deaths while 493 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,720 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 91,331 released and 3,389 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu suggested people to abide by the health directives to prevent further spread of the deadly virus in the division.
