COVID-19: 15,665 infected, 14,798 recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 22, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,665 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,798 recovered in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues declining consistently.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,665 as 13 new patients were reported after testing 178 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Thursday with the daily infection rate of 7.30 percent.

“The daily infection rate remained below 10 percent during the last five weeks bringing relief to common people in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 4.97 percent on Wednesday, 3.19 percent on Tuesday, 4.64 percent on Monday, 6.79 percent on Sunday, 2.92 percent on Saturday and 9.57 percent on Friday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,00,296 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Thursday, and of them, 15,665 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.62 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,798 with the healing of 16 more infected people on Thursday with an average recovery rate of 94.47 percent in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the total 15,665 patients stands at 3,989 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,322 in Nilphamari, 961 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,646 in Dinajpur and 1,452 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the 14,798 recovered patients include 3,576 of Rangpur, 748 of Panchagarh, 1,289 of Nilphamari, 941 of Lalmonirhat, 956 of Kurigram, 1,409 of Thakurgaon, 4,462 of Dinajpur and 1,417 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 302 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Thursday.

The district-wise break-up of the 302 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division, he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,665 COVID-19 infected patients, 30 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,798 patients and 302 deaths while 535 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,575 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 91,115 released and 3,460 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said people are wearing masks in large number improving the COVID-19 infection situation in the division.

He called upon everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives to further reduce the spread of the deadly virus across Rangpur division.
