15 more test COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Fifteen more people were tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today after testing collected samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the 15 new cases were reported today after diagnosing 178 samples at the daily infection rate of 8.43 percent.

The daily coronavirus infection rate remained below 10 percent during the last one month in the division as a result of wearing masks and abiding by the health directives by most of the common people.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 4.97 percent on Wednesday, 3.19 percent on Tuesday, 4.64 percent on Monday, 6.79 percent on Sunday, 2.92 percent on Saturday and 9.57 percent on Friday last in the division.

Among the 15 new patients diagnosed today, five were reported positive after diagnosing 84 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The five new patients include one each of Rangpur, Lalmonirhat and Nilphamari and two of Gaibandha districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 10 new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 10 new COVID-19 patients are hailing from different areas of Dinajpur district alone,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:55 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,667 as 15 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

The district-wise break up of the total 15,667 patients stands at 3,989 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,323 in Nilphamari, 961 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,502 in Thakurgaon, 4,647 in Dinajpur and 1,452 in Gaibandha districts.
