No irrational expenditure can be made in projects: Rezaul

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today stressed the need for optimum utilisation of the money allocated for the fisheries and livestock projects.

“No unreasonable expenditure can be made in the projects. Something unusual, including procurement, could not be done,” he told a project review meeting at the Secretariat here.

Rezaul said price should be fixed in project proposals in line with the market price, a ministry press release said.

“Public money is not for waste. We don’t want to stay in any negative publicity regarding our projects,” he added.

The fisheries minister asked project directors not to get involved in any irregularity or corruption and to visit project sites for timely implementation of project work.

“And you should not only visit the project sites but also have to stay in the field. At the same time, appropriate measures should be taken according to the results of the field visits. The state is giving you opportunities in many ways. That’s why your responsibilities towards the state should not be forgotten any way,” he said.

Fisheries and Livestock Secretary Rawnak Mahmud, Chairman of Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Director General of the Fisheries Department Kazi Shams Afroz, and additional secretaries of the ministry Shyamal Chandra Karmakar and Md Taufiqul Arif, among others, were present.
