Tajul for steps to eliminate Culex, Anopheles, Aedes mosquitoes
DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam today directed all concerned to take necessary actions in eradicating Culex, Anopheles and Aedes mosquitoes and their larvae from the country.
He gave the directive at an inter-ministerial meeting held online here to review the activities of city corporations and other ministries, departments and agencies for dengue prevention across the country, including the capital.
“It is necessary to take pragmatic actions to eliminate Culex, Anopheles and Aedes mosquitoes and their larvae from the country, including the capital, to give relief to the people of the country. Combined efforts of all concerned are badly needed for taking such steps,” he said.
The minister said that the authorities concerned had been able to control mosquito outbreak, specially the Aedes mosquito menace, by ensuring all kinds of cooperation such as providing effective medicine, using manpower and necessary equipment.
He called for increasing monitoring activities alongside purchasing medicines such as mosquito repellents in controlling mosquito menace as mosquito endures the repellent medicines if the same medicines are used frequently.
Expressing satisfaction over the sincere works of the two mayors of Dhaka, he said that the city dwellers are getting benefits following handing over of the responsibility of drainage system and canals management from the Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to the two city corporations: Dhaka South City Corporation(DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation(DNCC).
Both, the mayors also took effective steps to eradicate mosquitoes, he said, adding that if the canals inside the city are kept clean, city dwellers will get all the benefits of modern Dhaka.
He hoped that all the possible breeding grounds of other species of mosquitoes, including Aedes, will also be destroyed soon in the country.
Senior Secretary of the Local Government Division Helaluddin Ahmed conducted the meeting.
DSCC Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Mayor Jahangir Alam and Administrator of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Khorshed Alam Sujon attended it, among others.
