Saif register first win in BPL
DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Saif Sporting Club recorded their first win in the Bangladesh Premier League Football beating Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 2-1 goals in their second-round match held today at Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium in Cumilla.
In the day’s match, forward Mohammad Arifur Rahman and Nigerian striker John Okoli scored one goal each in the first half to secure victory for Saif while skipper Uryu Nagata scored the lone goal for Mohammedan in the second half.
Arifur opened the account scoring the first goal for Saif SC in the 44th minute while John Okoli doubled the margin scoring the second goal for Saif in the 45+2nd minute of the match.
After the resumption, the black and white Motijheel outfit came to the field with more organised way and got the reap when their Japanese midfielder Nagata reduced the margin in the 60th minute of the match.
In the remaining proceeding, Mohammedan tried heart and soul to stage a fight back in the match creating some chances but could not convert any lack of proper finishing.
Saif Sporting, who finished runners-up in the recently concluded Federation Cup, dominated the proceeding, especially in the first half, and notched their deserving victory while Mohammedan were off-colored, except the day’s only goal.
With the day’s win, Saif Sporting Club secured four points from two matches while Mohammedan Sporting Club remained at their previous credit of three points playing the same number of matches.
Saif Sporting Club will play their next match against Chittagong Abahani Limited while Mohammedan Sporting Club meet Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra. Both the matches will be held on January 24 at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Earlier, in the respective league opening matches, the popular black and white Motijheel outfit Mohammedan SC blanked Arambagh Krira Sangha by 3-0 goals and Saif Sporting Club lost valuable points as they played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Rahmatganj Muslim and Friends Society.
