Bangladesh cricketers likely to be vaccinated in mid February

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2021 (BSS)- The Bangladesh cricketers is set to be vaccinated to protect themselves from the coronavirus (Covid-19) in mid February, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon.

He also hoped that if the Bangladesh government has brought the vaccine before that timeframe, the players will get priority in being inoculated with vaccine.

“The vaccine which will come in private channel will be brought to us in mid-February. Then in fact those who are in cricket will definitely get our first priority,” Papon said here today.

“I heard that the government has a plan to bring vaccine before that. There is no reason for the cricketers to not get the vaccine if the government brings it. But if it comes in private channel, I think cricket players will get first priority.”

Vaccinating the cricketers is imperative in the BCB’s aspiration to restart the domestic cricket leagues, specially the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), which provides the bread and butter for the most of the cricketers in Bangladesh.

“I know two million will come from the Indian government which is the donation from the Indian government. And the government is buying five million. As far I know, it will come on January 25.

What I know is that the government has planned to give vaccines to cricketers in priority basis. Moreover, we will bring some vaccine in private basis for the cricketers,” Papon added.
