Rangpur records lowest 2.66pc COVID-19 infection rate

RANGPUR, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – The lowest ever 2.66 percent daily
coronavirus infection rate was recorded today in Rangpur division
where infection rate continues to decline consistently during the last
one month.

Health officials said only five new people were reported coronavirus
positive after testing 188 collected samples of Rangpur division at
the daily infection rate of 2.66 percent.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 4.64 percent on
Monday, 6.79 percent on Sunday, 2.92 percent on Saturday, 9.57 percent
on Friday, 8.23 percent on Thursday and 6.88 percent on Wednesday last
in the division.

Among the five new patients diagnosed today, none was reported
positive after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at
Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

On the other hand, all the five new patients were reported after
diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim
Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The five new COVID-19 patients include two of Panchagarh and one
each from Dinajpur, Nilphamari and Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of
MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the
testing process at 7:55 pm.

Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19
patients rose to 15,642 as five new positive cases were reported.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,642 patients stands at
3,987 in Rangpur, 784 in Panchagarh, 1,321 in Nilphamari, 960 in
Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,501 in Thakurgaon, 4,631 in Dinajpur
and 1,449 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
