GAIBANDHA, Jan 19, 2021 (BSS) – The district administration intensified blanket distribution among the cold affected destitute people of seven upazilas here to mitigate their sufferings caused by the ongoing cold wave.
District Relief and Rehabilitation office sources said a total of 39,100 pieces of blankets received from the ministry of Disaster Management and Relief had already been distributed to the cold stricken people of the district so far.
Later, the government gave Taka 53,500 to purchase blankets. As per the directives of the government, the district administration purchased blankets and is distributing those among the cold hit people.
The district administration distributed blankets among cold affected people of Sadar upazila at a function held on the ground of Islamia High School of the district town on Monday.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin attended the function as the chief guest while Sadar UNO Rafiul Alam was in the chair.
DC Abdul Matin said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is so cordial to do the welfare works for the poor.
Accordingly, the blankets are being distributed to the poor to mitigate their sufferings and sorrows caused by the cold wave.
Later, DC Abdul Matin distributed blankets among 450 cold victims.
