Eight more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS) – Eight more people were tested for
coronavirus positive today after testing samples at the two COVID-19
laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the eight new cases were reported after
diagnosing 151 samples at the daily infection rate of 5.30 percent.

The daily coronavirus infection rate remained below 10 percent
consistently during the last one month in the division following
growing public awareness on the necessity of wearing masks and abiding
by the health directives.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 6.79 percent on
Sunday, 2.92 percent on Saturday, 9.57 percent on Friday, 8.23 percent
on Thursday, 6.88 percent on Wednesday and 6.65 percent on Tuesday
last in the division.

Among the eight new patients diagnosed, three were reported positive
after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur
Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city. “The three new patients
include two of Rangpur and one of Nilphamari districts,” said Chief of
Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal
of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, five new patients were reported after diagnosing
57 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College
(MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“All of the five new COVID-19 patients are hailing from Dinajpur
district alone,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain
told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:45 pm.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients
rose to 15,638 as eight new positive cases were reported today from
across the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,638 patients stands at
3,987 in Rangpur, 782 in Panchagarh, 1,321 in Nilphamari, 960 in
Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,500 in Thakurgaon, 4,630 in Dinajpur
and 1,449 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
