Bangladesh not fazed by the little known Windies players

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS)—While Bangladesh will start as the clear favourite against West Indies in the upcoming home series, starting with three ODIs, the only thing that created a discomfort is that they are completely unaware of these Caribbean players’ strength and weakness.

In modern cricket, it is tough to devise a plan if a team is unaware of its opponents. Experts earlier said, this could lead to a troublesome situation for Bangladesh in the upcoming series.

Bangladesh is now on a five-match winning streak against West Indies in ODI cricket and also whitewashed them in two-match Test series at home in 2018. In that series, they will also beat West Indies by 2-1 in ODI series.

That was the full strength West Indies side and Bangladesh team management had the idea about all of the Caribbean players.

But this time they do not have that advantage.

However, head coach Russell Domingo seemed to be untroubled by that as he said the team’s performance analyst Shrinivas Chandrasekaran had already worked out on those unknown players.

“Shree [Shrinivas] has done some pretty good work for us. He has got footage on pretty much all the players from the CPL and domestic one-day tournaments. He managed to get some of those clips for us,” Domingo said.

And after watching their footage, Domingo was convinced that Bangladesh would make a great mistake if they take this West Indies side lightly.

“We have had a look at all the players. They might be an inexperienced international side but a lot of them have played CPL and domestic cricket. They have very good records. We cannot take them for granted,” he remarked.

Having said that he urged the players not to be complacent.

“It will be a tough challenge. West Indies is a proud cricket nation. These young players will have a point of prove. They want to make sure that they establish themselves in the sides. They’d be very motivated.

We have to be on our game from ball one. We can’t expect West Indies to roll over. It is going to be a very tough series. It will be a hard-fought and close contest. They have played domestic cricket. They are all ready to play. We can’t be complacent in going into the series,” he reiterated.
