Stocks maintain downtrend as major sector dip

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS) – Both the stock markets were down further today due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities despite higher transactions.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down by 48.72 points or 0.83 per cent to settle at 5,801.72.

Two other indices, however, edged higher. The DS30 index, comprising blue chips, gained 13.80 points to finish at 2,195.02 and the DSE Shariah Index rose 5.35 points to close at 1,293.97.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, remained low and amounted to Taka 15195.965 million which was Taka 23848.739 million in the previous session.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 356 issues traded, 62 closed lower, 222 ended higher and 72 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

Beximco continued to dominate the turnover chart, followed by Robui, Lanka Bangla Finance, Beximco Pharma and Sumit Power.

ADNTL was the day’s best performer, posting a gain of 9.83 per cent while SAVAREFR was the worst loser, losing 9.61 per cent following its price adjustment after record date.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also edged lower with its All Shares Price Index (CASPI)—losing 173.58 points to close at 16,898.44 while the Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 104.41points to close at 10,197.52.

Of the issues traded, 162 declined, 43 advanced and 50 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city bourse traded 2.41crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of more than Taka 98.04 crore.
