Friendship distributes 361 sheep to char dweller of Kurigram.

GAIBANDHA, JAN 18, 2021 (BSS) – Friendship, a leading non-government organization of the country has been working hard to reach char (river bed) dwellers of Gaibandha and Kurigram districts since 2010 aimed at changing the socio-economic condition of the char inhabitants and distributed 361 sheep among char dwellers in last few days till Yesterday.

The sheep were distributed among char dwellers who are also the members of Disaster Management Committee formed by Friendship under its Assistance for Sustainable Development (ASD) project funded by Friendship Luxembourg.

On Sunday, the organization formally distributed 61 sheep to the char dwellers of Sadar upazila in Kurigram district.

Sadar upazila Livestock officer(ULO) Dr. M. Habibur Rahman handed over the sheep to the project beneficiaries as the chief guest and project Manager of ASD project of ‘FRIENDSHIP’ agriculturist Md. Ashraful Islam Mollick was present at the event as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, ULO Habibur Rahman said the sheep rearing in the chars of the district is very profitable as the weather of the district is favorable which can play a significant role to earn economic profit for changing the lots of the char dwellers involved in sheep rearing.

The ULO also described the rearing methods of the sheep in the chars elaborately to attain the cherished goals of the sheep rearing and gave his commitment to provide all sorts of technical assistance from his office and its field staff to make the sheep rearing in the chars a grand success.

The ULO also distributed vaccine and deworming tablets to the owners of the sheep free of cost.

The ULO also thanked the organization for standing beside the backward char dwellers with sheep to change their living standard through sheep rearing.

Project manager agriculturist Md. Ashraful Alam in his speechs said, the organization is also making the char dwellers aware on different issues including establishing good governance, stopping child marriage and polygamy, drug trading, importance of education, income generating activity and increasing their capacity on disaster management to reduce loss of lives and properties side by side with asset transferring to the disadvantaged char people of the project command areas since the inception of the project.

Later, the 61 sheep were distributed among char dwellers of Sadar upazila of Kurigram district.
