Coronavirus: 15,630 infected, 14,751 recovered in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 15,630 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 14,751 recovered in Rangpur division where the daily infection rate continues declining consistently in recent times.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,630 as 11 new patients were reported after testing 162 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Sunday with the daily infection rate of 6.79 percent.

“The daily infection rate remained below 10 percent during the last one month bringing relief to common people in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 2.92 percent on Saturday, 9.57 percent on Friday, 8.23 percent on Thursday, 6.88 percent on Wednesday, 6.65 percent on Tuesday and 3.49 percent on Monday last in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 99,598 collected samples of suspected patients of Rangpur division were tested till Sunday, and of them, 15,630 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 15.69 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of cured patients rose to 14,751 with the healing of 30 more infected people on Sunday with an average recovery rate of 94.38 percent in the division.

The average recovery rate is currently over six times higher than the average infection rate in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,630 patients stands at 3,985 in Rangpur, 782 in Panchagarh, 1,320 in Nilphamari, 960 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,500 in Thakurgaon, 4,625 in Dinajpur and 1,449 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the 14,751 recovered patients include 3,567 of Rangpur, 748 of Panchagarh, 1,287 of Nilphamari, 941 of Lalmonirhat, 953 of Kurigram, 1,406 of Thakurgaon, 4,435 of Dinajpur and 1,414 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 302 in the division with no more deaths reported from anywhere on Sunday.

The district-wise break up of the 302 fatalities stands at 71 in Rangpur, 108 in Dinajpur, 33 in Thakurgaon, 27 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

Among the total 15,630 COVID-19 infected patients, 31 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 14,751 patients and 302 deaths while 546 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the beginning, a total of 94,409 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 90,845 released and 3,564 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said people are wearing masks at larger scale improving the COVID-19 infection rate in the division.

He suggested everyone to sincerely abide by the health directives to further reduce the spread of the deadly virus across Rangpur division in the future.
