JS passes PIB Bill, 2018
SANGSAD BHABAN, July 11, 2018 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad passed the Press
Institute Bangladesh Bill, 2018 with a view to bring the institute into a legal frame and
functioning it accurately.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu moved the bill and the House passed it by voice
votes with Deputy Speaker Fazley Rabbi Mia in the chair.
Piloting the bill, the Information Minister said the proposed act will help make the
institute a time-befitting and develop the journalism profession, research, training and its
prosperity.
With the passage of the bill, all the media employees including the full time journalists,
editors, news editors, deputy editors, sub editors, feature writers, reporters, newsmen,
copy-writers, cartoonists, news photographers and editorial assistants will come under
gazette notification.
Earlier, the parliamentary committee on the Information Ministry scrutinized the bill in a
meeting held on June 10, 2018.
