15 more test Covid-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 17, 2021 (BSS) – Fifteen more people were tested for coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today after testing samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the 15 new cases were reported today after diagnosing 161 samples at the daily infection rate of 9.32 percent.

The daily coronavirus infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark in the division consistently during the last for consecutive weeks.

Earlier, the daily COVID-19 infection rates were 2.92 percent on Saturday, 9.57 percent on Friday, 8.23 percent on Thursday, 6.88 percent on Wednesday, 6.65 percent on Tuesday, 3.49 percent on Monday and 7.79 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Among the 15 new patients diagnosed today, five were reported positive after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“All of the five new patients are hailing from different areas of Rangpur district alone,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 10 new patients were reported after diagnosing 67 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the 10 new COVID-19 patients are hailing from different upazilas of Dinajpur district,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 6:35 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,634 as 15 new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,634 patients stands at 3,986 in Rangpur, 782 in Panchagarh, 1,320 in Nilphamari, 960 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,500 in Thakurgaon, 4,629 in Dinajpur and 1,448 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
