Gaibandha and Sundargaganj municipality polls ends peacefully

GAIBANDHA, JAN 16, 2021 (BSS) – The Second round polls of Gaibandha and Sundargaganj Municipalities of the district today ended peacefully amidst much enthusiasm.

The voting started at 8 am and ended at 4 pm without any intermission . Counting of voters started shortly after the voting ended in the municipalities.

The government declared a public holiday in the municipalities on the Election Day to help the voters cast their votes.

Election office sources said the number of voters is 51,387 in Gaibandha Municipality and 14,071 in Sundarganj Municipality of the district.

The turn out of the voters in the election was satisfactory as over 50 percent voters cast their votes in 48 voting centers, Election Commission (EC) officials said.

The election was held in the municipalities in a free, fair and fair manner as local administrations has taken up necessary security measures, Officials said.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdul Matin closely monitored the overall activities of the election round the clock as per directives of the election commission.

Besides, the DC also visited a number of voting centers of Gaibandha and Sundarganj Municipalities and talked to the voters and polling officials.

‘Law enforcing agencies including members of the RAB and BGB were patrolling all areas of the municipalities and the voters went to the centers without any interruption’ said councilor candidate Asaduzzaman Tara Miah..
