Rangpur division records lowest six COVID-19 positive cases

RANGPUR, Jan 16, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division today recorded the lowest number of only six coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in the division.

Health officials said the six new cases were reported today after diagnosing 137 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division with the daily infection rate of 4.38 percent.

The daily COVID-19 infection rate continues to remain below the 10 percent mark consistently during the period of the last four consecutive weeks in the division.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 9.57 percent on Friday, 8.23 percent on Thursday, 6.88 percent on Wednesday, 6.65 percent on Tuesday, 3.49 percent on Monday, 7.79 percent on Sunday last in the division.

Among the six new patients diagnosed today, two were reported positive after diagnosing 43 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“Both of the two new patients are hailing from separate places of Rangpur,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, four new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.
“The four new COVID-19 patients include one of Dinajpur, two of Thakurgaon and one of Panchagarh districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:50 pm.

Talking to BSS tonight, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,621 as six new positive cases were reported from across the division today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,621 patients stands at 3,981 in Rangpur, 782 in Panchagarh, 1,320 in Nilphamari, 960 in Lalmonirhat, 1,009 in Kurigram, 1,501 in Thakurgaon, 4,620 in Dinajpur and 1,448 in Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
