Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games shift to April

DHAKA, Jan. 16, 2021 (BSS)- The Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games, which was postponed last year, now will be held from April 1-10 in the capital and the divisional cities in order to make memorable of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The decision was taken in an executive committee of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) held today at Kurmitola Golf Club with BOA president and chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed in the chair.

The game was originally scheduled for April last year. The BOA had to postpone the games for indefinite time in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting decided to hold the games on a grand scale in April this year with around 8500 athletes and officials are expected to participate in the mega domestic competition.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to send athletes in seventeen disciplines including football, cricket, hockey, archery, shooting, karate, basketball and swimming, to the 19th Asian Games scheduled to be held in September 10-22 next year in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.

The meeting also decided to send athletes in thirteen disciplines including football, swimming, archery, handball, karate and volleyball, to the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games scheduled to be held in Turkey in September 10-19 this year.
