19 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Jan 15, 2021 (BSS) – Nineteen more people were tested positive for
coronavirus (COVID-19) today after diagnosing 188 samples at the two COVID-19
laboratories in the division.

Health officials said the new cases were reported with daily infection
rate of 10.10 percent.

This is for the first time in the last three consecutive weeks that the
daily infection rate crossed 10 percent mark in the division where the same
remained below 10 percent consistently during the period.

Earlier, the daily infection rates were 8.23 percent on Thursday, 6.88
percent on Wednesday, 6.65 percent on Tuesday, 3.49 percent on Monday, 7.79
percent on Sunday, 5.20 percent on Saturday and 8.16 percent on Friday last
in the division.

Among the 19 new patients diagnosed today, six were reported positive
after diagnosing 94 samples at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) COVID-19
laboratory in Rangpur city.

“The six new detected patients include five of Rangpur and one of Kurigram
districts,” said Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task
Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

On the other hand, 13 new patients were reported after diagnosing 94
samples at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC)COVID-19 laboratory in
Dinajpur today. “The 13 new COVID-19 patients include nine of Dinajpur, two
of Thakurgaon and one each of Nilphamari and Panchagarh districts,” Principal
of MARMC Prof Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing
process at 5.40 pm.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health)
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients
rose to 15,616 as 19 new positive cases were reported from across the
division today.

“The district-wise brea-up of the total 15,616 patients stands at 3,979 in
Rangpur, 781 in Panchagarh, 1,320 in Nilphamari, 960 in Lalmonirhat, 1,008 in
Kurigram, 1,500 in Thakurgaon, 4,620 in Dinajpur and 1,448 in Gaibandha,” Dr.
Siddiqui added.
