Nine militants surrender to RAB

DHAKA, Jan 14, 2021 (BSS) – Nine active members of different militant organizations today surrendered to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) aimed at returning to normal life.

“The government is not only controlling militants but also trying to bring them to normal life through de-radicalization,” Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said at a function styled ‘Naba Diganter Pathe’ at RAB headquarters.

After their surrender, the minister handed them to their respective families and said people of the country never give shelter and protection to militancy and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina declared zero tolerance against militancy.

“We have controlled militancy and marched forward to curb extremism. We are giving the militants the scope to surrender and return to normal life. Cooperation will be given to them for rehabilitation if they return normal life,” Kamal said.

He minister said the anti-crime elite force is also giving tractors, agricultural equipment and cash to them aimed at rehabilitating.

“Those who were misguided and lost the right way have now returned to their parents,” the minister added.

During the surrender programme Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed and Director General of RAB Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun also spoke.

Among those who surrendered, six were former JMB operatives while the rest three were Ansar Al Islam members.

They are: Shaon Muntaha Ibne Shawkat, 34, Dr Nusrat Ali Juhi, 29, Abida Zannat Asma, 18, Abdur Rahman Sohel, 28, Md Hossain alias Hasan Gazi, 23, Md Saifullah, 37, Md Saiful Islam, 31, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, 26 and Md Saidur Rahman, 22.
