Campaign for Gaibandha municipality polls gets momentum

GAIBANDHA, JAN 14, 2021 (BSS) – A total of eight candidates are contesting
for the mayoral post in the upcoming Gaibandha municipality polls scheduled
to be held on January 16.

The candidates are: Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon (Awami League)
and Md. Shahiduzzaman Shahid (BNP) while six independent candidates are Md.
Anwar-ul Sarwar, Matlubur Rahman, Shamsul Alamof, Ahsanul Karim, Mieza Hasan
and Faruque Ahmed.

Candidates along with their supporters and workers riding every mode of
transport and using loud speakers are trying to draw the attention of voters.

Alamgir Hossain, a voter of Shukh Nagar area, said they would like to see
an honest, efficient, affectionate to the poor, development worker and
dedicated person as the mayor of Gaibandha municipality this term.

Mashiar Rahman, owner of Khan Printing Press of the district town, said
they were passing busy times for printing posters and leaflets for the
candidates.

The district town has got a new look due to posters on the roads and
crowded places handed by respective candidates.

A total of 51, 387 voters would cast their votes to elect mayor and
councillors.

The election office has started massive preparation for holding a free and
fair municipal election.

The votes would be taken through EVM machine for the first time and the
district election office conducted the orientation courses regarding election
rules and procedures for the selected officials.
