Govt to procure 50,000 MT wheat

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2021 (BSS) – The government will procure 50,000 metric tons of wheat through international quotation from a Singaporean company in the current fiscal year (FY21).

The approval came from the 2nd meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) in this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Kamal informed that the day’s CCGP meeting approved a total of five proposals with an outlay of around Taka 607.74 crore.

Out of the total cost, he said, around Taka 594.71 crore will come from the government of Bangladesh while the remaining Taka 13.03 crore as loan from the World Bank.

Joining the briefing virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Dr Abu Saleh Mostafa Kamal said that the Directorate General of Food under the Ministry of Food would procure 50,000 metric tons of wheat through international quotation in the current fiscal year (FY21) from M/S Agrocorp International PTE Ltd Singapore where the price for per ton wheat would be $326.92.

The CCGP meeting approved another proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division under which the government would procure 30,000 metric tons of diesel from Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) of India on government to government (G to G) basis for the January-June period of the current calendar year with a cost of Taka 107.72 crore.

Saleh said the total cost includes premium price, reference price and insurance price while a total of 60,000 metric tons of diesel would be procured from NRL in the entire calendar year of 2021.

The meeting gave approval to another proposal from the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division under which the Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited, Gazipur would accomplish public works in three project sites (Rangpur, Bogura and Gopalganj) with around Taka 154.61 crore under the Palli Janapad project being implemented by the Rural Development Academy, Bogura.

Besides, the proposal from the Statistics and Informatics Division for receiving consultancy services from the joint venture of Xeron India Ltd, IOE (Bangladesh) Ltd, TOP Image System (Germany) under the ‘National Household Database (NHD)” Project (3rd revised) with an additional amount of around Taka 13.03 crore as variation cost was approved.

Apart from this, the CCGP meeting approved the proposal from the Department of Public Works for constructing a 20-storey new office building at Bangladesh Secretariat by the joint venture of The Civil Engineers Limited, National Development Engineers Limited and Banga Builders Limited with a cost of around Taka 193.77 crore.

Earlier, the meeting on Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs was held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The meeting approved the lone proposal for exempting the section 68(1) of PPA 2006 and the section 76(2) of the PPR 2008 as well as the concerned local law of Greece for establishing the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Centennial School at Athens under the Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment.
