Rangpur records lowest 2.86pc COVID-19 infection rate

RANGPUR, Jan 11, 2021 (BSS) – The lowest ever 2.86 percent daily coronavirus (COVID-19) infection rate was recorded today in Rangpur division where infection rate continues to decline consistently during the three consecutive weeks.

Health officials said only nine new people were reported coronavirus positive after testing 315 collected samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division today at the daily infection rate of 2.86 percent.

The daily COVID-19 infection rate remained below the 10 percent mark during the last three weeks in Rangpur division.

The recorded daily infection rates were 7.79 percent on Sunday, 5.20 percent on Saturday, 8.16 percent on Friday, 6.81 percent on Thursday, 7.10 percent on Wednesday and 7.73 percent on Tuesday last in the division.

Among the nine new patients diagnosed today, five were reported positive after diagnosing 127 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

The five new patients include four from Rangpur and one from Kurigram districts.

On the other hand, four new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur today.

“All of the four new COVID-19 patients are hailing from Dinajpur district alone,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process at 7:10 pm.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Assistant Director (Health) and Focal Person of COVID-19 for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 15,531 as nine new positive cases were reported today.

“The district-wise break up of the total 15,531 patients stands at 3,960 in Rangpur, 776 in Panchagarh, 1,315 in Nilphamari, 958 in Lalmonirhat, 1,002 in Kurigram, 1,495 in Thakurgaon, 4,581 in Dinajpur and 1,444 in Gaibandha districts,” he said.
